In a letter dated March 6, 1882, regarding one of her meetings with local church members, Giles wrote, “[We] urged upon them the importance of educating the women; that it was a great mistake to do so much more for the men and so little for the women…. We told them why we were here and of the school. We were surprised not only at their expressions of sympathy and readiness to cooperate in the work, but still more so when they each pledged something for the “Girl’s Building.”
Dearest Spelman Sister,
The 1992 Class is preparing to gather for our 30th reunion in May. Amazing to think three decades have passed since Spelman sent us from its nest to live our charge to change the world. To paraphrase remarks from our commencement speaker, Dr. Maya Angelou, ‘Look where she, Spelman, brought us from!” We left Spelman, but it’s never left us. In the years since graduation, we’ve mourned classmates, celebrated children, worked in every industry from environmental to engineer. Our setbacks and accomplishments have moved us through the ocean of time, yet the waves of reunion reconnect and reaffirm our sisterhood. We remain jewels in the crown that is Spelman.
The planning committee is coordinating with campus to design a great reunion, given the parameters of the pandemic. It’s likely the bookstore won’t be open, but we will be permitted on campus for March Through the Alumnae Arch (details pending). Our class will meet in person for off-campus events May 12-15. We hope you will follow the safety of science and join us for activities arranged with protection in mind.
Spelman Registration
Spelman in-person reunion activities will include The Sisterhood Breakfast, True Blue Gala and Reunion Convocation as well as virtual access to commencement. The in-person reunion fee is $400. The virtual package is $125. Reunion registration this year will not exceed 350 registrants from all classes, with 100 registrations reserved for Diamond Daughters and Golden Girls. A separate reunion commemorative box can be purchased for $200. Registration opens Monday February 14, 2022.
True Blue Class of 1992 Dues
Our 30th reunion class dues are $150 for ‘92 in-person events and souvenir swag. Payments will be accepted via PayPal. Checks will not be a form of payment for Class Dues. We’ll send updates when the PayPal is live.
1992 Undaunted Giving
Our class strives to exceed its past giving records and return to our number one position for highest percentage of class participation. Many have enrolled in direct deposit, and some have made gifts in honor of our sisters who soar. Our goal is to increase our gift participation to 50%. Every dollar makes a difference. May our donation reflect the gratitude for all that Spelman has given us. Our class gift deadline is Friday May 13, 2p.m. ET.
